7-Minute Bible Study: The Power of Christ’s Blood

🕐 1 Minute - Opening Scripture

Read aloud:
“Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” – Hebrews 9:22

Take a moment to reflect: What does this verse mean? Why does forgiveness require the shedding of blood?

🕐 2 Minutes - Key Concepts

The Bible teaches us that blood represents life, and forgiveness of sin requires the payment of a life. Sin is serious—it separates us from God and demands a penalty. Jesus’ blood, shed on the cross, is the only payment powerful enough to fully forgive sin. Let’s focus on three important truths:

  1. No one is good enough to skip this payment.
    • Moral behaviour, kindness, or good works cannot erase our sins. Forgiveness is only possible through Christ’s sacrifice.
    • “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”(Romans 3:23).
  2. Only Jesus’ blood is valuable enough to pay for sin.
    • His perfect, sinless life is the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of the world.
    • “…you were redeemed…with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect”(1 Peter 1:18-19).
  3. This is God’s only way of forgiveness.
    • Forgiveness cannot come through religious rituals, prayers, or ceremonies. It’s only through trusting in Jesus’ blood.
    • “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement”(Leviticus 17:11).

🕐 2 Minutes - Bible Connection and Reflection

Look up and discuss:

  1. Leviticus 17:11“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.”
    • What does this verse teach about the significance of blood in God’s plan for forgiveness?
  2. 1 Peter 1:18-19“…it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed…but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
    • How does this verse show that Jesus’ blood is unique and irreplaceable?

Reflection Questions:

  • Do I sometimes try to make up for my sins by being good or doing better?
  • Am I trusting fully in Jesus’ blood for forgiveness, or am I looking to my own efforts?
  • How does knowing my sins are fully paid for change the way I live?

🕐 1 Minute - Application

When you feel guilt or doubt, remember:

  1. Don’t look to feelings or good deeds for comfort.
    • Feelings change, and our good works can never erase sin.
  2. Look to Jesus on the cross.
    • His blood was shed for your forgiveness, and His work is finished.
    • “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”(Romans 8:1).
  3. Thank Him for paying your debt.
    • Take time to worship and thank Jesus for the precious blood that covers your sins.

🕐 1 Minute - Closing Prayer

Pray together or silently:
Lord Jesus, thank You for shedding Your precious blood for my sins. I know that no amount of good works or effort could pay the debt I owe. Help me trust fully in Your sacrifice and live in the joy and peace of knowing my sins are forgiven. When guilt or doubt creeps in, remind me to look to Your cross. Thank You for paying it all. Amen.

Key Takeaway for the Week

Jesus’ blood is the only way to forgiveness, and His sacrifice is perfect and final. Trust fully in Him, not in your feelings or efforts, and live with the joy of knowing you are forgiven.
