“Surely he shall save you from the trapper’s snare.” — Psalm 91:3
How God Saves Us From Traps
God saves his people from traps in two ways: He keeps them from falling into traps, and he rescues them when they’re caught. Some people find the first promise most precious; others find the second more wonderful.
“He shall save you from the trap.” How? Often, God uses troubles to save us. He sees when we’re starting to drift away from him, and in his kindness, he corrects us. We ask, “Lord, why is this happening?” not realizing that this trouble is protecting us from much worse danger. Many people have been saved from disaster by their hard times and burdens; these difficulties have scared them away from danger, like birds frightened away from a trap.
Sometimes, God keeps his people safe by giving them spiritual strength, so when they’re tempted to do wrong, they say, “How could I do such an evil thing and sin against God?”
Hope for Those Who Have Fallen
But here’s something amazing: even if a believer falls into the trap, God will rescue them! If you’ve wandered away from God, you should feel sad about it, but don’t give up hope. Though you’ve strayed, hear what God says: “Come back, my wandering children; I will forgive you.”
But maybe you’re thinking, “I can’t come back—I’m trapped.” Then listen to his promise: “I will surely rescue you from the trap.” You will be freed from the wrong things you’ve fallen into, and though you’ll always be sorry for wandering away, God who loves you will never reject you. He will welcome you back and give you joy, so that even though he had to correct you, you can be happy again.
None of God’s children will remain trapped in the enemy’s snare.
